Off-duty deputies may act in a law-enforcement capacity under very specific and restrictive circumstances. While on or off-duty, deputies shall not, under any circumstances, commit crimes. Any deputy found in violation of this policy is subject to potential termination from the department.
Immediately report any crimes you witness via 911, avoiding involvement as much as possible.
Involve yourself IF there is an imminent threat of harm to yourself or others AND you believe it is safe and appropriate.
If involved, immediately identify yourself as an off-duty deputy and provide your name and badge number.
If involved, present your badge prior to interfering.
Abide by all BCSO & JDC policies and procedures.
Enforce minor code violations.
Take advantage of your authority for personal gain.
Having your badge visible while not operating in a law enforcement capacity.
Involve yourself into incidents where you are not needed.
Department administration reserves the right to review all off-duty actions and impose penalties if these actions are deemed in violation of our policies.
