Sergeants & Master Sergeants are required to remain at their rank for a minimum of two promotion panels. This allows us to properly evaluate your performance and effectiveness in the position over a set period of time. Meeting the minimum requirement of two promotion panels does not guarantee an automatic promotion. Promotions into the heads team are determined by the Office of the Sheriff (01-05) and typically is the result of exemplary service within the command team either in a high command position (Captain) or especially great work in a Department Overwatch position.
If you are on LOA or ROA, you are not eligible for promotion. Time spent on LOA or ROA also does not count toward minimum time in rank eligibility requirements.
