Reports are handled by department supervisors unless the report is on a Supervisor in Training or above. In the event of the report being on a Supervisor in Training, it may be handled by at minimum a Master Sergeant. Supervisor reports are handled by command staff.
All reports are required to contain the name, callsign, contents of the report (what they did), and evidence to support the claim. We will not go on a goose chase in the event you don't know who you're reporting.
If you're the reporting party, you will not receive a notice that the incident is being investigated nor the result of the potential investigation. We'll notified once it's being/been handled at that will be the end of it.
All substantiated reports are followed by an investigation. Investigations serve as an opportunity for the accused party to give their side of the events and potentially defend their actions. This is not always the case. Some investigations simply serve as a notification of punitive action, in which case the accused party need only acknowledge the notice. A subsequent appeal must be submitted to a separate ticket locked to the heads team.
In the event you are the accused party in an ongoing investigation, please allow up to 24 hours for the handling supervisor to review your rebuttal and come back to you with either a follow-up or a verdict. You may be suspended from patrol during this time. You are allowed to request to see the evidence brought against you, but the handling supervisor is not required to provide it if it risks compromising the anonymity of the reporting party.
Any punishment that is issued as a result of an investigation may be appealed within 10 days of having been issued the punishment. To do so, you must open a department inquiry and notify us that you wish to appeal a punishment. Afterwards, the ticket will be locked to the department heads team and you will be asked to provide some information regarding the punishment. Please allow up to 24 hours for your appeal to be reviewed and a verdict to be issued.
Whether you are a reporting party or accused in an investigation, all department communication is expected to be respectful. There is a difference between expressing a disagreement and arguing for the sake of arguing. Anyone found to be in violation of this will have their ticket thrown out, whether that be a report, an investigation, or an appeal.
